Model Self-Assessment for Students

Purpose

To show students the importance of and need for self-assessment by teacher modeling and establish a shared practice that will help them grow their AP Skill building the same way it grows a teachers instructional practice.

Outcome

Students benefit from a teachers’ modeling of self-assessment skills by seeing it as a purposeful exercise that even their teachers’ use to get better.

Action Steps

  • Choose a meaningful set of data that regularly informs instruction.
  • Build a lesson modeling the self-assessment steps taken for actual lesson planning.
  • Make direct connections to steps students should take to assess their own performance.
  • Provide an opportunity for students to practice self-assessment during the lesson.
