Cooperative learning can support students’ development of skills and mindsets to be successful in AP coursework, including practice verbalizing ideas, comparing ideas, collaboration with peers, and the creation of a strong classroom culture.
Utilize Inside/Outside Discussion Circles.
Utilize the Numbered Heads Together strategy — promotes group work AND individual accountability.
Consider the Jigsaw strategy —home group/expert group activity.
Use Think-Pair Share: students work as pairs to share ideas on a topic. Students are encouraged to disagree. The pair discussions are followed by a whole group discussion.
Assign “reporters” for small groups to help shyer students participate.
