To onboard student into the AP Program so they are prepared to begin by Day 1 of coursework and have an opportunity to build the foundation needed to excel later.
To expose students to professionals that make a difference and are directly related to their academic trajectory in high school.
To allow students to interview a leading community expert who works in a field aligned with class content.
To support students’ skill development beyond their regularly scheduled day.
To boost students’ confidence and investment in learning content deeply while building connection and trust with the teacher. Students also develop oracy and presentation skills.
To build in the routine of students holding one another accountable for learning and presence in class.
To create a shared experience for students through a collectively created work of art.
To build structures in which AP teachers act as coaching mentors for students.
To help prospective 9th & 10th grade AP students gain an understanding of the AP program experience by engaging with current AP students.
